CAFA Scholarship Announcement

Chinese American Faculty Association (CAFA), a non-profit professional organization, is planning to award several scholarships ($600 each) to undergraduate students to provide encouragement in their studies and assistance with their financial needs.

All undergraduate students (except for previous CAFA scholarship recipients) who are interested in Chinese culture and meeting the following qualifications are invited to apply:

  1. currently enrolled in an accredited institute of higher learning in Southern California and
  2. carrying at least 12 quarter units or 8 semester units load with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The selection criteria are:

  1. academic achievement,
  2. extra-curriculum activities involvement in Chinese culture or community, and
  3. financial needs.

Email you application packet to wtlin@marshall.usc.edu before noon of Friday, February 20, 2015. Your complete application packet should include the following:

  1. a completed application form and a personal statement outlining your professional goals, financial situation, and any information you would like the committee to know (approximately one page in length),
  2. a set of unofficial transcript(s) from all colleges/universities you have attended (one copy), and
  3. optional : one letter of reference from an individual who can evaluate your academic and/or work performance. The letter shall be emailed to the Scholarship Committee directly by your reference.

If you are selected as a finalist, you will receive a notification shortly after the application deadline. For finalists, an official transcripts and a letter of reference (if not already submitted with the application packet) from an individual who can evaluate your academic and/or work performance are required. It is the finalists' responsibility to submit the required documents in time for the final selection of the CAFA scholarship recipients. The required documents shall be emailed directly before March 3, 2015 to the Scholarship Committee Chair from the university for the transcripts and from your reference for the letter.

Awardees must appear in person at the banquet of the annual CAFA convention to receive the award. Your luncheon will be paid for by CAFA. You may also invite friends or relatives to the banquet, but they will have to cover their own costs. The 2015 CAFA convention is scheduled at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Quiet Cannon Montebello at 901 Via San Clemente, Montebello, CA 90640.
