Achievement Award - Dr. Judy Chu
Represntative Judy Chu was elected in July 2009 to the U.S. House of Representatives as the
Representative of California’s 32nd District, which includes East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. She
immediately got to work representing the interests of her constituents, voting on several environmental bills
and working through the night on her first day in office during a marathon debate on the health care reform
bill. She is a member of the House Judiciary, Education and Labor, and Government Oversight Committees.
Since then she has been heavily involved in crafting legislation to create new jobs, help small businesses
and improve our nation’s education and immigration systems.
Congresswoman Chu’s career in politics spans 24 years. Prior to her election to Congress she served three
terms as the Assembly member representing the 49th District, where she chaired the important Assembly
Appropriations Committee. A lifelong educator, Congresswoman Chu taught community college classes in
Los Angeles and East Los Angeles for 20 years. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology and a B.A. in mathematics.
Service Award - Professor Jeffrey Wang
Dr. Jeffrey Wang Jeffrey Wang obtained his B.S. in Medicinal Chemistry from the School of Pharmacy,
Shanghai Medical University, Shanghai, China and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of
Southern California, Los Angeles, California. After receiving two postdoctoral trainings at the School of Pharmacy,
University of Southern California and College of Medicine, University of California, Irvine, he joined the faculty of
the College of Pharmacy, Western University of Health Sciences in 2003. He is currently Associate Professor of
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Director of Graduate Education and Assistant Director for Bio-analysis and
Pharmacokinetics, Center for the Advancement of Drug Research and Evaluation at the College of Pharmacy,
Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Wang's research interests are in the discovery and development of
preventive and therapeutic agents for human diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Wang
is a co-inventor of several international and US patents and has published more than 40 research and review articles
in journals and books in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, including Journal of Controlled Release,
Pharmaceutical Research, Molecular Pharmaceutics, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, and Nature
Medicine. Dr. Wang is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, American Chemical
Society and American Association for Cancer Research. Dr. Wang also serves as Vice President of the American
Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, Chair of the Targeted Drug Delivery and Prodrugs focus group of the
American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, a grant reviewer for the National Center for Complementary
and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health, and a peer reviewer for many scientific journals,
including Molecular Pharmaceutics, Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences.
Dr. Wang served as Secretary (2004-2006), Vice President (2006-2007), President-elect (2007-2008) and
President (2008-2009) of Chinese American Faculty Association Southern California and currently is a board
member.
