Chinese
American Faculty Association of Southern California (CAFA) Newsletter, October
31, 1999
President’s Message
Dear Members and Friends:
As President and President-elect of the Chinese American Faculty Association of Southern California (CAFA), we would like to thank you for the wonderful supports that you provided in the past years to CAFA and its activities. In the coming year, we hope you continue to support us by attending CAFA functions, suggesting activities that CAFA should carry, and introducing new faculty members to join CAFA.
We would like to thank Professor Tu-Nan Chang to
create and maintain our CAFA homepage
(http://physics1.usc.edu/~tnchang/cafa.html).
Please visit our homepage and give us suggestions. We are pleased to
inform you that we will have three activities in the next four months: (1) a
seminar on "Roads to College Education" on Saturday, November 13,
1999; (2) the "Mandarin Speech Contest for College Students in Southern
California" on Saturday, February 19, 2000; and (3) the year 2000 CAFA
convention on Saturday, February 26, 2000, with the two-time CAFA President
Sunney I. Chan as the keynote speaker. Please mark your calendar for these
three important dates.
We also need your help to raise more money for our CAFA Scholarship Fund, and to identify good candidates for our CAFA scholarship. (A copy of the CAFA scholarship application form is attached to this newsletter). We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to numerous donors for their generous contributions, especially Mr. Henry Chi and Dr. Lois Chi, Dr. Tu-Nan Chang and Mrs. Hsiao-Lin Chang, Drs. Harry and Ruth Hsiung, Dr. Sunney Chan, Dr. Mimu Yu, Mrs. Minn Poe and her family. Without their unlimited devotion and boundless charity, the CAFA scholarship foundation would not become a reality at all.
We encourage your continued support to CAFA. With your participation and support, our organization will stay viable and active to serve our colleagues and the local community. We are counting on you, our loyal members, to provide leadership and make our organization grow.
Our best wish to you for a productive and rewarding year!
Sincerely,
Haw-Jan Wu Thomas W. Lin
