Direct-readout SQUIDs

The direct-readout SQUIDs developed by Susanne Thomasson at USC were fabricated at TRW. Both APF and SQUID arrays were used. Below, we show photographs of two of our several designs for APF SQUIDs.

The "Diploos" chip contains a large input inductor dc-SQUID with a 10 JJ array Q-killer inline with the input coil, a binary resistor array for additional positive feedback configuration (on right). This chip also contains a Resistive-SQUID (at

bottom). All resistive elements are fabricated from trilayer of Ti/Pd/Au for milliKelvin device operation.

The Parametreo chip contains a Resistive-SQUID (on right) with pick-up coil inductively matched to a dc-SQUID input signal coil (center). A Binary resistor array for additional positive feedback configuration (far left). The Resistive-SQUID signal is amplified on chip by flux-locked dc-SQUID. All resistive elements are fabricated from trilayer of Ti/Pd/Au for milliKelvin operation.
